Season 1, Episode 123: Robert Kopecky – Author, Artist & Spiritual Seeker

Today’s guest is Robert Kopecky. Born in 1956, and raised on the outskirts of San Diego, California, Robert survived a traumatic childhood, traveled extensively as a young man, and lived a variety of lives as a ski bum, a martial artist, a factory welder, a monumental sculpture fabricator, an underground cartoonist; and finally as an award-winning illustrator, art director, and animation designer.

Robert Kopecky

His journeys – from the Mayan underground, to remote South Pacific islands, to the capitals of Europe, to the deserts of Arizona and the canyons of New York City – were punctuated by three dramatic, distinctly different “Near Death Experiences.”

Eventually, the years of professional successes and personal setbacks delivered him to his own “dark night of the soul.” This led to more than ten years of study, meditation, and service – and the eventual transpersonal realization of what life (and death) can be – that inspired him to start joyfully passing along the lessons he’d learned in a very hard way.

Robert’s book, How to Survive Life and Death: A Guide for Happiness in this World and Beyond, is available on Amazon.com and bookstores everywhere. He continues his art, designing animation for agencies, TV and internet; and writing spiritual essays and memoir for his blog, “Art, Faith, and the Koko Lion”.

You can find out more about Robert at www.RobertKopecky.blogspot.com or check out his Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/RobertKopecky.

How to Survive Life (and Death): A Guide for Happiness in This World and Beyond (Conari Press, 2014)

When you nearly die three times, you learn a thing or two about how to live…

An Emmy-nominated art director for television, Robert Kopecky (Season 1, Episode 123) never dreamed he’d end up writing a book about how to survive life and death. But what else could he do? Over the years, Kopecky had not one but three near-death experiences. He discovered exactly what lives on the other side of our fears about dying–and living. And he had some stories he knew we’d want to hear. Even some very funny ones.

Read this book and you’ll find yourself uncoiling, relaxing your shoulders, taking deeper breaths. You may even feel like you’re floating as you begin to shed the weight of a lifetime of social and existential anxiety. You’ll discover what Kopecky believes are the three keys to living more life:

  • Radical Kindness
  • Radical Forgiveness
  • Radical Surrender.
And you’ll find the calm determination to live your life accordingly.

Season 1, Episode 120: James Westly – Author, Therapist and Spiritual Teacher

Today’s guest is James Westly. James is a licensed psychotherapist and the author of My Journey to Now Plus Tools for the Seeker: A Spiritual Memoir, the remarkable story of his pursuit for higher consciousness by separating thought from self.

James completely withdrew from society at the age of 35 to study higher consciousness at the Gurdjieff Ouspensky Center in Northern California. Years later he would mainstream his spiritual practice, earning a master’s degree in counseling from the University of Phoenix. He has been practicing psychotherapy since 1986.

As a therapist, James specializes in the practice and dissemination of techniques to awaken and develop the Human Spirit. He teaches his clients how to stop thought and focus their mind fully into the present moment through a very powerful concentration meditation that demonstrates that your mind is not who you are.

According to James, our lives are governed by fear. We are the product of fear, and everywhere we go we are faced with fear.
