Season 2, Episode 234: A Conscious Approach to Disability in the Military

For this topical content episode, Michael is joined by Marty Klein. You may remember him from Season 1, Episode 76. Marty was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1948, and lost his eyesight while serving with the U.S. Air Force in 1974. This disability did not stop him, as he then went on to write several books, co-founded the Namaste Yoga Center, and co-produced an instructional video series “Beginning Yoga for the Blind and Visually Impaired”.

You can find out more about Marty and support his efforts at www.WhyCantWeServe.com or www.HatchFund.org.

In today’s show, Michael and Marty talk about the challenges that exist for our disabled veterans and the bigger picture of the challenge for all of the disabled in this country. Marty shares his vision for reframing the way we look at disability in the military.

Season 2, Episode 230: Ginny Wright – Master Health & Nutrition Coach

Today’s guest is Ginny Wright. Ginny went from being a Canadian to a Virginian in 2002 with no idea what her next professional step would be, after an early career in retail. At a friend’s suggestion, she decided to apply her love of exercise to an actual career in fitness.

So, being a true example that we should do what we love and the job and success will follow, Ginny attended a personal training seminar in DC, where she was recruited on the spot by a local outdoor fitness company.

Within a year, she had started BodybyGinny, a boot-camp style of classes held in parks and other locations. Always meeting outside regardless of the weather, Ginny designs new workouts every time, and clients who have been with her for 12 years say they have never had the same class twice!

Ginny became certified as a health coach at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in 2009 and started using those tools to help herself and her clients lead healthier lives. She became interested and started reading a lot about Buddhism and mindfulness 5 years ago, and now enjoys educating her clients about that, as well.

You can check out more about Ginny and her new Total Wellness Challenge (TWC) at www.TWCFit.com.

Interim 2015, Episode 229: A Thanksgiving Special

It’s Thanksgiving today, and I want to take a moment to join you in gratitude in this special holiday episode. I’ll also take some time to let you know about the launch of Season 2, but for now…

What are you thankful for?

If you’ve been listening to my show for a while now, you know that I’m a big advocate of letting go of your stories – the fiction part at least; the part you make up about the real facts of what happens. And you’ll also know that the best way to do that is to stay awake and not go into auto-pilot mode.

Being thankful is one great way to flip that switch and become fully present to what is. Anytime we pause to give thanks, if we’re truly looking at what we are thankful for, we have no choice but to heighten our awareness.

So, what are you thankful for today? Really Thankful for?

Today’s episode is brought to you by American Ruckus, a New Digital Series that tells stories focusing on the real heartbeat of America, highlighting the accomplishments and struggles of American entrepreneurs, businesses and manufacturers. Interim 2015, Episode 228: A Night at the Museum (the MAH-dcast)

In today’s episode, I will share a series of brief interviews conducted at the Museum of Art & History right here in Santa Cruz, CA. I was invited to introduce the art of podcasting as part of their Radical Craft Night. This is a really awesome event that the MAH puts on every year, where you can learn about everything from button-making and taxidermy, to metal forging and silk-screening, and so much more. It’s radical.

And it’s all part of the third-Friday series that the MAH features on an ongoing basis. So, if you’re local to Santa Cruz, or just stopping through, be sure to check out the MAH (The Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History) anytime, but especially on the third Friday of every month when things really get rocking.

A quick side-note: this show was recorded with a massive and varying degree of background noise. Some of the guests are easier to hear than others, and I’ve done quite a bit of editing to try to make it work. My apologies to those people I interviewed but was unable to use in the show for some reason or another, which was likely due to background noise.
